No Need to Fly Out

My brothers are fans of the Japanese retail store, Muji. My brother, Jones, loves his Muji eyeglasses which he bought in Japan last Holy Week.

We spent a considerable amount of time at that store when we last went to Hong Kong (which was last December). If you're familiar with our local "Anonymous" shop back in the '90s, their items and the store interiors are something close to that—very minimalist. The only difference is that the colors aren't as dark (black, red, military green, gray). Muji's color palette are all light, clean, and in earth tone hues.

*photo taken from http://balticdesign.files.wordpress.com

Muji sells almost everything! Last December, our whole family "divided and conquered," with all of us buying something from Muji. I tried looking for bed linens, but it seems they didn't make california king sizes :( Then, I headed to their stationery supplies. Like a kid in a candy store, I took my time picking colorful ballpens, sign pens and refills :D

*photo taken from http://anglotopia.com

No need to get all jealous with my post, because Muji is coming to town! Weeee! I got this text from Ginggay Joven-de la Merced and her team from Visions & Expressions (the PR group who handles most of Rustan's, SSI, and other companies related to them):

Muji will be in Manila by September on top of the Gap store in Bonifacio High Street. They will carry RTW, gifts, home, statio, food, etc...

Oooh, we can't wait :D

Tropical Delight

Guess who launched another perfume?
With four fragrances under her belt (all bestsellers at that), Paris Hilton's latest Siren is sure to make waves this summer. It's a mix of fruity and floral, with Coconut Orchid for a subtle dose of tropical beach "flavor."

Why a siren? “Siren is all about being sexy in a playful way. I feel irresistible as a mermaid, “says Paris Hilton. “And I love that the idea of Siren comes from long ago legends but is still super modern. What girl doesn’t want to have fun being a fantasy creature that men can’t resist?” “Although Siren is inspired by the ancient Greek tales of beautiful women, mermaids or water fairies, who were incredibly tantalizing and enticing, it is also contemporary as it invites every young woman to jump in and have fun exploring the fantasy of being phenomenally desirable – the way only a mermaid could be”.

The bottle comes with a cute mermaid charm, so Paris Hilton don't you think? :D But, like all her perfumes, I have a feeling this will be a hit. I know so many people who do not like to be associated with her, but secretly buy/use her fragrances. Just proves that they really smell good!

As for the fragrance, April of Prestige (who handles perfumes like Paris Hilton's) sent me a breakdown:
Top
The shimmering top notes of delicious juicy Mandarin and Apricot Nectar flow into the indulgent aurora of Frangipani blossom.

Heart
The heart of the fragrance splashes with the tempting petals of Water Lily, the hypnotic scent of Honeysuckle and is wrapped in the sun drenched bloom of Coconut Orchid.

Base
The sensual and creamy base of tempting Vanilla Beans is combined with the mysterious
Power of warm Sandalwood while waves of creamy Musk complete this spell.

Siren by Paris Hilton Eau de Parfum Spray 50ml............................... ............Php 2,500.00
Siren by Paris Hilton Eau de Parfum Spray 100ml............................... ..........Php 3,450.00

Light a Candle for Earth

I believe that we should all take part in conserving our resources to save Earth.
I think we're all too spoiled, with all that's been discovered/developed for the 21st century.
So, this time, why don't we try a dose of simplicity for a change? Join Earth Hour this March 27, as we shut off all the lights and all forms of electricity
from 8:30-9:30 p.m. in honor of Mother Earth. I'm sure you'll be able to find something to do, or bond with your loved ones
without TV or game consoles. I have a friend who played board games to pass away the time. You'll be amazed at what kind of closeness you'll have after that ;)

In support of Earth Hour, Charles & Keith support Earth Hour by giving away a limited number of lavender-scented candles. Read on to find out how:

CHARLES & KEITH SUPPORTS EARTH HOUR
Worth the candle

Since launching in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, the Earth hour has become the world’s largest initiative for climate change. Starting from 2.2 million homes & businesses that took part in switching their lights off for an hour, it has become a global movement with hundreds of millions of people from across 4,000 cities in 88 countries pledging their support for the planet.

Charles & Keith shares in the global efforts of the Earth Hour in raising awareness on the need to take action on climate change. On March 27, 2010, Charles & Keith stores nationwide will switch off several lights from their stores for a full hour in support of this global initiative.

Charles & Keith also encourage its customers to take part in the worldwide event through the “Charles & Keith supports Earth Hour tea-light candle” campaign. Every regular purchase of Charles & Keith footwear and/or bag allows the customer to claim a lavender-scented candle made of environmentally friendly crystalline blend palm wax especially designed for the Earth Hour. This will only be available from the opening hours of the stores on March 27 while supplies last.

For more information, please visit CharlesKeith.com. The landing and homepage banner of the website will also go on a darker color shade to signify its support for the event.

Earth Hour is a global warming initiative, a message of hope and a worldwide call to action for every individual, government and business to take responsibility and play a part in ensuring a sustainable future.

Every action will make a difference.

Late Post: My Night at Hermes

Remember Max Brenner at Greenbelt 3? It has now been replaced by Hermes, and I recently attended their launch/formal opening. It was quite noisy (kakahiya) when the Asian Director (not sure) started his speech.

These "angels" greeted us by the entrance, btw...

It was pretty packed, and we positioned ourselves near this sales lady. I had to take a stolen shot of her,
I like how she wore her scarf. See the boxes at the back? I wonder if they were given to VIPs that night...

After the speech and the toast, we went around the store.
Some were buying, like this lady who wanted to check out their scarves.

I love tulips :D

After a round, we were asked to follow the path (behind Greenbelt 4) going to Ayala Museum.
It was a closed path, and both sides were made of temporary grass walls.

Every few meters, we'd see "Mr. Horse" guarding the area. We just couldn't resist having our photo taken. That's Melody, Mr. Horse, me and Keri Zamora of Kira Plastinina (Philippines). They both have Hermes birkins, while I was carrying Chanel Mademoiselle bag. For those of you who are wondering what I'm wearing... it's a Ronaldo Arnaldo dress with Wild Diva heels by House of High Heels.

When we got to Ayala Museum, we had another photo op. The background is very "Hermes" right?
With us in the photo is Grace Velasco of Divasoria and The Radar (Philippine Star).

Overflowing drinks...

Lots of pica-pica food

I had cheese the most that night

Some people shots... I love her dress. And how fab that she wore Melissa boots :)

Pops Fernandez

I like how she tied her "Hermes"

PR maven Ginggay Joven dela Merced

Preview's Daryl Chang and Pauline Juan

I also got to hang out with Bebeth Timbol (my ex-boss and very good friend),
Metro Society's Raul Manzano, and Leah Puyat.

Took a full body shot of Leah. She's such a ray of sunshine :)

How cute her "clutch" right?

Leah said it's a display she got at home, and shows us that it even has a strip of "fortune" inside. haha...

Lots of peeps in Hermes, but the ones that stood out for me where those like Leah's. You don't really have to be in designer duds to get my attention.
Oh, and about the party...let's just say it wasn't really my thing since the crowd was more for the "older" ones, but it was great catching up with ol' friends
and having our photo taken with Mr. Horse haha ;)

A Poivre Summer

Here's a teaser from Poivre's latest collection :)

This would make a pretty nice cover-up for the beach. Or you can pair this with a body-con mini.

Liking the bow-detail of this dress. I think you can even wear it as a skirt.

I can imagine a beaded bib/necklace with this one.

Again, nice option for a cover-up... aside from wearing it as a dress.
The loose top makes for great contrast with the tightness at the hip area.

Another sexy option. The ruffled detail gives a flirty feel to this sporty racer back style.

I have an attachment to multi-functional dresses, and this one...I think you can play around with.

Ah, another one to add to my list.
I think loose tops are the way to fight off the heat and humidity this summer.

Poivre is available at The Ramp, Glorietta.
Have a great week ahead, everyone!

Barbie Goes to the Ballet

We can always count on facebook and twitter for the latest buzz. The most recent of which is from facebook, which started with status updates on how the designers are all dressing up Barbie dolls. Tippi Ocampo and James Reyes had an exchange of tips and ideas on how to make the clothes, with Ocampo reminiscing about her childhood toys.

A week after, photos of their collection were posted. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing these magnificent and very detailed works. Louis Claparols came up with Lady-Gaga inspired Barbies, while James Reyes photos were worthy of a fashion editorial. Everyone was definitely inspired, like New Yorker’s Tina Lirag who thinks of Barbie as every designer’s perfect client: “At 50 years old, she still has the perfect body. She can wear anything and everything!”

A lot of them were transported back in time, as they immersed themselves in producing a collection for the iconic
doll. Patrice Ramos-Diaz even “remembers playing Barbie with my cousins every summer. We converted one of our lola’s small antique cabinets into a fully furbished Barbie house. Back then, I would hand sew little dresses and bags for my Barbie dolls.”

Like most, Puey Quinones had a fun and challenging experience dressing up these dolls. “I thought it was going to be easy because it’s small lang, but I was wrong! I realized it was kind of hard to sew small dresses and make patterns, too! So what I did was mostly draping.”

A “small” task for this group of 42 big-hearted designers. Eric Delos Santos was all worked up for this very privileged assignment. “It’s for a good cause,” he adds. These Barbie dolls will be put up for auction for the benefit of Ballet Philippine scholars and dancers. “Barbie ballet represent every girl’s idyllic dream. Through Ballet Barbie, we hope to create the perfect blend of these two and come up with something that every girl will want to keep and cherish for the rest of her life,” says Ballet Philippine President Margie Moran-Floirendo.

I was invited to a preview of the Barbie dolls last week, but I was in a rush. Car was coded and I had to borrow my parents' car and driver. I arrived on the dot, 2 p.m., at The Conservatory at Manila Peninsula hotel. Everyone was still busy preparing for the press preview...

I couldn't even enjoy the food, but I had a few small bites of their pastries. Yum ;P

As mentioned earlier, everyone was busy preparing. So I went around and took photos of my fave designs:

Cary Santiago is always a fave. Isn't it obvious why?

Hans Bruman with their fabulous accessories

James Reyes and his elaborate beadwork

Louis Claparols and his lady gaga-inspired outfits

I was also given a CD with pictures of the other designers' collections, check these out:

Eric delos Santos: “I love weddings. They’re mini-versions of the previous bridal gowns I made.”

Patrice Ramos-Diaz: “Swan Lake, in particular, was my inspiration. It’s a mix of whites, grey, nude, and pink; with emphasis on the texture of gathered tulle and puffy silhouettes.

Puey Quinones: “My inspiration is from the dresses I made for my clients that I really love, but couldn’t keep. I wanted to see those designs again, so I decided to make them in Barbie size.”

Tina Lirag: “I was inspired by different ballets: Jewels, Carmen, Metamorphosis. From there, I designed the dresses as if each of the dolls were a certain client of ours.”

Feel free to click on the photos to zoom in on the details :)

* Ballet Philippines is grateful to American Express, Lifestyle Network, Manny O. Wines, Metro Society, The Peninsula Manila, Philips and Richwell. These dressed-up Barbie dolls will be officially unveiled at the Ballet Barbie Auction and Exhibit TOMORROW---March 17, 2010, Wednesday, 6:00pm at the Rigodon Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila. For inquiries, please call Caroll Odvina at 0922-8135148. For information on the auction, please contact Menchu Manteco at 0918-9425118 or email menchugonzalezmantecon@yahoo.com.
