Prepping for the Oscars

I've been receiving great reviews about Black Swan, so when I was invited to watch it last night at Power Plant Mall, I just had to confirm!

Bumped into the lovely Bianca Valero just before we went in.  I'm liking the long tulle skirt—a subtle rendition of the Black Swan perhaps? :)  Oh, and check out her shoes ;)

Velvet Channel is prepping us for the Oscars with this private screening and their own Oscar competition via photo shoot entries this Thursday—will be attending that as well, so expect a post on it here :D  Check out one of the entries featuring Kim Chiu:

Watch out for the entries and the winners of the Oscars event by Velvet channel this Friday :)

Colorful Leather Accents

A delightful lunch with Tod’s Senior PR Associate Flora Lee (who flew all the way from Hong Kong) and an exclusive preview of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection awaited a handful of us at the executive floor of The Peninsula Manila recently. Displayed all around the suite was a refreshing lot of leather goods in a mix of light, dusty hues and vibrant shades.

For this season, Tod’s introduces the Shirt Bag, an ultra-light and soft leather bag with drawstring closure, which is a favorite among the fashionable guests that were present. A great travel buddy, this foldable bag is made from leather of finest quality that ensures that the Shirt Bag can withstand the many folds without ruining this newest member of the Tod’s leather family.

Another new addition is the clutch bag with buckle design. Made with colorful python skin, this clutch comes with a hidden shoulder strap to take you from day to night.

For footwear, their flats go for a feminine take with ballerina flats getting an upgrade with colorful suede and accentuated with silver ties. Offerings of high heels are also included in this collection, with standout details such as cut-outs, woven saddlery, crafted leather and visible hand stitching as the main elements.

Other updates include the tote bags crafted in either soft calf leather and in precious crocodile skin; and the Gommino shoe collection in metallic leathers, colorful suedes and precious crocodile.

The fashionable male set will also be glad to know that the men’s tote has been improved with pratical inner pockets and a hook that can be used to attach keys or a mobile phone among others. The bottom exterior of the bag is also waterproofed that’s made from rubberized fabric that makes it especially strong, making it perfect for the urban male trendsetters.

*In the Philipines, Tod’s shoes, bags, and accessories are exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI), and are available at the boutiques located in Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center, Makati and Rustan’s Tower, Shangri-la Plaza Mall.

A Hint of Mystery

The Face Shop’s Spring 2011 collection, Paradise Bloom, offers two color palettes (coral orange and dusty rose) that work with both the fair-skinned ladies and morena alike.

Paradise Bloom Sun-Up
Paradise Bloom-Sun Up

Paradise Bloom Sun-Down
Paradise Bloom-Sun Down

Get a complimentary makeover to check out the latest collection, by visiting The Face Shop’s branches. To give you a heads up, The Face Shop’s training manager and chief makeup artist Marge Apacible shares with us her recommendations:

“My fave products are the Blush Blush Cheek Stamp in pink, and the matching color-full lip palette in pink. The Blush Blush Cheek Stamp has hologram pearl powder to give a radiant glow with a natural wash of color. It is best paired with the color-full lip palette. The palette has four shades that range from nude pink to deep plum. Use each lip color individually or combine to create your desired lip color,” she says.

Between the two looks, I personally like the Sun Down look.  Here's how to get it:

Begin with supple, well-moisturized skin; try The Face Shop’s new White Tree Snow skincare line. Achieve a flawless complexion using the skin-perfecting Face It HD Perfect BB Cream in SPF30PA++. Then, finish off with the seamless coverage of the new Phytogenic Infinite Powder Foundation SPF20.

Groom brows with the new Lovely Me:Ex Auto Eyebrow in 02 Gray Brown. On eyes, softly blend pink and gray shades using the dual-colored eye palette Lovely Me: Ex Eyeshadows PK103 and BK903. First, using the Lovely Me:Ex Eyeshadow in PK103, glide color over the entire eyelids as eyeshadow base. Then over the eye crease, smooth over Lovely Me: Ex Eyeshadow in BK903. Line the upper lash line and tear line with the Lovely Me: Ex Eyeliner in 02; smudge lightly for dramatic definition. For luscious lashes, curl lashes then apply two coats of Face It All About Mascara in Power Volume.

For a radiant glow, sweep a sheer layer of the new pink-sparkled Blush Blush Cheek Stamp in 01 Pink.

Achieve glamorous lip tones from rose to plum by combining shades of the Color-full Lip Palette in 01.

Add vavavoom volume to limp hair using the Changpo Wave Volume Up hair care line.

Complete your look with Face It Nail Color in PK105 then finish off with Nail Color Top Coat.

P.S. Side note, what do you think of the blog's new look? :)

Military Whimsy

On the heels of young designer Jerome Lorico's win at the Japan International Fashion Competition, comes another Filipino designer triumph, Happy Andrada’s. A finalist at the said competition, she also was invited to be our country’s sole representative to the International Fashion Art Biennale at the Seoul Arts Center in Korea, held late last year as well.

Being invited via e-mail to the International Fashion Art Biennale was a nice surprise for Andrada. Her whimsical works, whose pictures she uploaded online, gave her this rare opportunity to share with the world the amazing talents of our designers.

Your designs have always been very whimsical. Why is that?
Happy Andrada: I love dressing up, and just having fun with fashion. I like to create something that’s punky/funky, something maximalist, and really detailed. Why fit in if you can stand out?

What do you like most about being a designer?
I love making clothes for my clients, and making them happy with my creations. It feels like an achievement. My bridal clients have such awesome themes: medieval Chinese, Japanese, gothic, flapper, etc… I also love my debutante clients; the themes of their debuts are Tokidoki, pirates, Cirque de Soleil, Candyland, to name a few.

For this collection/exhibit, what was your theme?
The theme of the exhibit is “War and Peace” for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. It’s sad that they just celebrated their 60th anniversary, and now there’s a conflict again between the two countries.

What fabrics and colors did you use for this collection? Why?
The colors that I used are military fatigue: different colors of greens and browns. I also used a fusion of different fabrics like cotton, brocade, organza, net, chiffon, taffeta, cocoon silk, and abaca. I wanted to play with the colors and the textures.

The exhibit was held in Korea. Are you a fan of Korean fashion and their lifestyle? What is it that you like about Korea?
I’m a fan of K-pop fashion and makeup. I’m also addicted to their movies and series. They have unique plots, it’s really entertaining and fun to watch. Plus, Lee Min Ho, Daniel Henney and their other actors are hot! I also love the weather there. I love layering my clothes and it was just the perfect, freezing weather. There are also a lot of cool unique finds there, when it comes to shopping.

What Korean fashion trend or style do you like most?
I personally like the K-pop layering. They use different colors of clothing and prints, and they layer it. I love their black liners and how they style their hair.

Which designer would you like to intern for?
I’d love to intern for Betsey Johnson, because she seems to be so much fun, and John Galliano—I love how whimsical he is. I hope to meet him.

Who are the celebrities you’d like to dress?
I’d love to dress Lady Gaga and Pink but she’s pregnant now. For Korea, 2ne1, 4minute and Wondergirls.

Coming Real SOON: Fashion Watch

Got a sneak perview of the much-awaited Fashion Watch by the CFDP last week, with Inno Sotto and Jojie Lloren opening the mini fashion show that awaited us at the Quezon Ballroom of Shangri-la Makati:

I took a video of the show.  But apparently, Youtube can only upload 2Gb worth :( My video is a little over 2Gb :(  So, these photos would do for now...

I can't wait to see the amazing collections these designers will be presenting in the next few weeks.  For those who aren't familiar with Fashion Watch, read the press release below:

Standing as a creative avenue, Fashion Watch Quartet continues to be the much-awaited series that brought to the forefront fresh new talent and the most exciting fashion.

This year, 2011, marks the revival of Fashion Watch Quartet. The much raved about fashion series is back for good, amped up and better than ever!

Fashion Watch 2011 is a project of the CFDP (Council of Fashion Designers of the Philippines). It will run from February to November, 2011. Each week will feature the collection of one designer, who will have his/her creations unveiled to all through a fashion show held at the lobby area of the prestigious Shangri-La Makati Hotel.

The series will feature 20 of the country’s most notable designers, each showcasing a brand new collection. Each designer is exclusive to Fashion Watch Quartet; you won’t see their collections on any other fashion show series. Every designer will showcase their Holiday collection early on in the year and a Spring/Summer collection towards the latter part of the year, much like fashion timetables abroad.

This season’s Fashion Watch Quartet will be featuring the country’s top designers JC Buendia
Jerome Lorico; Len Nepomuceno; Jun Escario; Philip Rodriguez; Patrice Diaz; Gian Romano; Lulu Tan-Gan; Joey Samson; Ivar Aseron; Dennis Lustico; Arcy Gayatin; Oj Hofer; Joel Escober; Ito Curata; Alex Bitong; James Reyes; Ferdi Abuel; Norman Noriega; and Jojie Lloren.

Fashion Watch Quartet will stage special shows as SEVERAL internationally know ASEAN designers will be flown in to display their creations to the Filipino public.

Besides an A-list roster of designers, models, and media partners The Philippine Star, Preview, StyleBible, and StarWorld, Fashion Watch Quartet boasts of industry greats working behind-the-scenes as well, including Patrick Rosas and team as the force behind hair and makeup, Grace Molina as Project Coordinator and Director and Manila’s Prince of Fashion himself, Inno Sotto as Creative Director .

Fashion Watch Quartet is a fashion show series initially created by Richard Tann and Inno Sotto, sprung unto the scene in 1996. Shows were held twice a year and served as avenues for promising young designers to showcase their talent and have their work displayed for all to see. The series not only gained popularity locally and internationally (no less than CNN’s Elsa Klensch featured creations from the shows) but it also became a certified fashion trailblazer.

As Fashion Watch Quartet makes its comeback, it continues to raise the bar and set the trend for how today’s fashion show series should be.
