Korean Wave

If you frequently pass Makati Avenue, then you surely won’t miss this three-storey building that houses the salon. Its minimalist design and clean, white walls, matched with window panels dressed with L’Oreal Professionnel images, stand out from the sea of restaurants on the block.

Ample and free parking space, on-the-house drinks, and complimentary wi-fi access are just some of the many perks one gets when availing of the establishment’s services. But, more than these, it’s the salon director, Kim Dong Gyu or Kei for short, that will make you a convert of this beauty hub.

With celebrity clients such as Kwong Sang Woo (once The Face Shop’s endorser) and Kim Tae Hee (of Stairway to Heaven) under his belt, you are assured to get star treatment as well. But this doesn’t mean that you’ll end up looking like a Korean, too!

Lee Kei
Kei understands the Filipina: “They are not adventurous. They don’t like wavy [hair], and prefer to have it [hair] relaxed or rebonded (P4,500 and up).” This is totally opposite from what Koreans like which is wavy, with lots of color.

When asked what he recommends for us Filipinas, he gave quite an amusing answer: “Filipinas have cute faces, so [better to] try getting big curls.” They have services such as Digital Perm (P3,500) and Setting Perm (P3,500) that can deliver sexy, wavy hair.

Hair color goes from P2,500 and up, with Kei recommending colors such as matte blond, golden blonde and ash blonde as must-tries. Those who wish to get a haircut (P500 up) should consider getting bangs. Kei suggests side-swept bangs for a sweet and feminine look.

As for me, Kei did a wonderful job cutting my hair and giving it a new color as well.  Been getting compliments for his work, and he's such an easy stylist to work with—friendly and very hands on.

Pamper Time

Dropped by my favorite pamper place at Morato yesterday at Posh Nails:
IMG_4256
Tried their newest treatment, Strawberries and Cream manipedi treatment—Yum!
IMG_4255

I was given a glass of sweet Strawberry drink while waiting for the staff to set up:
IMG_4260
...along with a "bubble bath" for my footsies:
IMG_4261

This was "served" for me. Ain't it pretty and cute? :)
IMG_4262

While that was being done, I got to try their "Nail Emergency" treatment as well.
IMG_4258

...which included brushing my hands and nails with creams to battle anti-aging:
IMG_4264

After which, I stopped taking photos as both my hands were full of creams. I enjoyed the Strawberries and Cream treatment—they smell soooooo good! Nothing beats getting pampered, highlighted with the sweet aroma of strawberries :D And the staff took out all the unwanted skin off my feet: foot spa is included. Plus, they were very gentle in cleaning my nails—that's very important!

Next on my list: their Back Parrafin Wax ;) I've been having regular upper back muscle pains, and I think I need to give my back extra attention and care.
Will let you know how this goes, when I get the chance to try it.

Good Leather Buys

Out of the many invites I got from Tod's, last week was the first time I was able to attend one.
This was a "quickie" as I only got to squeeze this in during my lunch break.   Guess who I saw on her way out?

IMG_3670
It's none other then my schoolmate and ex-colleague Ingrid Go of thebaghagdiaries who is now in New York.  She posted in facebook that she just had a meeting with Donna Karan of DKNY—wow!  This lady is definitely going places, literally :)  So proud of her.  In the photo with her is Ms. Malu Francisco, another lovely and gracious lady from the SSI group.

IMG_3671
The next "couple" I bumped into was Queen Melo Esgueera of Manila Bulletin and Maureen Disini of Tatler.
I just had to take a photo of both of them wearing accessories from Forever 21.

IMG_3690
Here's the statuesque Myrza Sison of Spot.ph in an all black ensemble that highlighted her cool blue nail polish. Love it!

IMG_3679
And finally, the model and the ladies of Tod's. I find the model really pretty, don't you agree?
Now, off to the goodies:
IMG_3672
Tod's is quite known for their shoes. This pair gives an edgy twist to this classic ballet flats.
IMG_3674
These loafers are just gorgeous—loving the color, the texture and the thin rope bow detail.

IMG_3681
The pointy-toe style makes this a very sexy pair.
IMG_3683
We tried carrying these two hobo bags, and they are very light!
IMG_3684
For the urban chick, these will go well with opaque tights ;)
IMG_3686
The pashmy has been well-received; I'm pretty sure it will be a classic.
For this season, it comes in treated leather to give it a more rugged feel.
IMG_3676
Tod's sure know how to turn something masculine into something very feminine.
IMG_3675
Lastly, the iconic D bag is still a staple with this season's offerings in buffalo, calf and antique leather; fur and matte crocodile.
* Tod's is available at Greenbelt 4, and Rustan's Tower, Shangri-la Plaza Mall.

Bling Rewards

You know you’ve come of age when you’re wishing for something more than just the trendiest clothes and the latest IT bag and shoes. Years of hard work have led us to a deeper appreciation of the finer things in life, which usually means rewarding yourself with precious jewelry, for one.

But before you start buying gems from your neighborhood “alahera,” we recommend you head over to trusted establishments such as Karat World for your jewelry fix. With its year-long campaign “Because we deserve it,” along with its chosen celebrity endorser Maricar Reyes, Karat World definitely knows who the 21st century woman is—a multi-faceted lady who knows and stays true to who she is.

Maricar Reyes represents the woman of today, taking in patients at her clinic in Pasig and shooting for her new projects as well: “Medicine has always been a priority, but I try and devote my time to where it is needed the most at the moment,” she explains. “I love both of my occupations, so I hope to expand my clinic in the future while aiming for more challenging roles in show business.” Not only that, she’s a triathlete and model, too!

Women like Reyes truly deserve more, and jewelry is usually tops on our list of must-haves. So if you’re a neophyte who’s a bit tight on the budget, we suggest you check out the diamond illusion rings that are perfect for ladies who have just discovered their new-found love for sparklies. Semi-precious and precious gems are also available in classic and modern styles for those who love color and variety.

All Your Worldly Goods

Thanks to technology, I am able to work with a mobile office—cellular phones (not just one!) and a laptop keep me at my most productive. But lugging around a huge tote can be quite an inconvenience, leading me to a sling-bag hunt.

Kipling’s latest bag collection answered my prayers with its Delia model. It’s a shoulder-bag style that comes with a removable strap, making it a versatile piece. It comes in two color combinations,
delia peppery
Peppery (cream canvas and olive green suede) that’s very preppy,

delia cadet blue
and Cadet Blue (blue canvas and blue suede with cream piping) for the collegiate.

lynda sparkling black
Women who prefer to keep their hands free would also love Lynda, a sparkling black shoulder bag that can take you from day to night. The cracked leather finish, matched with a zippered front pocket, makes this an edgy choice.

carissa real red
And, for casual weekends, give yourself a shot of color with Carissa sling in real red. This canvas bag is the perfect accompaniment to your relaxed pick of tee and denim combo.

Road Blocks

I left a little later than usual thinking that there will be no traffic, but I was wrong.  A lot of roads were half filled with fallen debris; some were unpassable even!  We didn't have access to anything—no electricity means no TV, no signal on our mobile phones.  The only thing we can listen to was the AM radio, which I tuned in on my way to work this morning.

IMG_3701
Here's what the roads looked like this morning. I am grateful that people are proactive now—is this a sign of things to come? :) I do hope so!
As of this writing, I am at my in-laws. We still don't have electricity at our place, but we're glad everyone's safe and sound. I hope everything's is ok on your end, too! Take care, everyone! :)

Pattern Frenzy

We have Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten to thank for the awesome mix of printed patterns.  Just when we were getting bored, designers like them give us yet another exciting challenge.

But long before this printed trend hit the runways, Dwell Studio was already out in the market with their classy blend of quirky prints as interpreted in their lines of storage and utility boxes, linens, baby, table, accessories and travel items.  To officially welcome the brand to our Philippine shores, Adam Gobble of DwellStudio New York paid a visit recently to introduce them to an exclusive group of guests at The Peninsula’s Presidential Suite.

Guests such as new mom Juana Manahan-Yupangco, jeweler Candy Dizon, stylist Michael Salientes, and blogger Liza Ilarde (who happens to have a great knack for mixing prints) had a great afternoon checking out the new arrivals.  From lunch boxes to pouches, even utility bags… DwellStudio gives each of these items a refreshing new look.

Shoe Lift

The recently concluded Philippine Fashion Week was more than just about clothes, with Rusty Lopez providing the shoes for 22 designers this season. Enrico Carado, Happy Andrada, Jaki Penalosa, Kenneth Chua, Noel Crisostomo, M Barreto, and Joel Escober were just some of the participants given shoes to complete their collection exhibit.
Lito Lopez, president, of Rusty Lopez, shares: “We understand how difficult it is to make a name in the fashion industry, having undergone the same process which started some 33 years ago. Rusty Lopez, and Centropelle for that matter, went through the same birthing pains that our young designers are now experiencing. Hopefully, with support from established brands like ours, we can help this talented and creative group of people and together, bring attention to the local fashion industry.”
It’s great to know that we have local brands helping local designers. For the show, most of them used platform skyscrapers, but they do have equally show-stopping flats as well.  Here are my top picks:

RR620008
Studded black

RR620007
Pop pink sandals

RT280014
Electric blue mary janes
RR620012
Glittery strappies

Glad to know that our local retail are supporting our own designers.
We can't wait for Rusty Lopez' next set of shoes for the holidays ;)

Free Drinks on HSBC

It's my first time to avail of HSBC's promo with Starbucks tonight. Hubby got something with coffee and had an add-on of coffee jelly for free (worth P160)! I'm not a fan of coffee, so I got myself a cup of Caramel Cream (blended) that costs P125.

Not bad, right?
Just remember that you should avail of these freebies within two months, or else you'll be forfeiting the drinks.
