Be Back in a Few...

Heya, ladies and gents! I'll be out of the country for the whole of next week. Will try to post if possible, but I highly doubt it since the country where I'm going to blocks a lot of websites (*hint*).

Have a great week :D

Makeup that works as Skin Treatment, too!

Last month/year, La Mer launched two new products under its cosmetics line. I was invited to its intimate launch at the 5th floor of Rustan's Makati.

It was quite cozy and relaxed

From their famous skincare line,

comes their Treatment Powder Foundation (big compact) and Radiance Concealer (small compact)
Taken from their website:

Treatment Powder Foundation with SPF15
This luxurious, lightweight powder foundation may be applied to create uniquely flexible coverage. Gemstones capture light energy to create a translucent color palette, optically erasing imperfections to reveal a naturally flawless complexion. An exclusive Radiant Ferment works continuously to add visible clarity and brightness, revealing a more luminous appearance.
This versatile powder foundation is ideal for natural, long-lasting coverage and simple touch-ups over any other Skincolor foundation.

Radiant Concealer with SPF25
This treatment cream concealer instantly evens the skin’s appearance while adding radiance. Gemstones capture light energy to camouflage dark circles and blemishes, optically erasing imperfections to create a smooth, even finish. Precious marine and plant extracts help reduce the appearance of undereye puffiness, lines and wrinkles and minimize pores. Redness and discoloration are diminished as skin is continuously calmed and soothed. Fine layers provide buildable coverage. Skin stays naturally flawless all day. SPF 25.

Makeup Artist Christine Duque explains these two new products
...and showed us how to apply it, with the help of my friend (model/makeup artist/ad girl) Mica Tuano

It was great to see fellow editors again. In the photo below:

I'm IN LOVE...

... with Eric delos Santos and his creations :D

Another thing I did over the holidays was visit one of my fave designers, Eric. Brought my mom to his studio in Prince Plaza, so she could have her "ninang" gown made—to be worn this month. That's Eric in the photo :)

What made my jaw drop was this fully beaded shrug he made for a fashion show in Paris. Oui! Truly an exceptional piece, don't you think so? :)

Here's a professionally-taken photo of it. Isn't it just breathtaking? :o
photo taken from Eric's FB. Hope you don't mind, Eric :D

I first met Eric when I styled some celebrities for StarStudio magazine—this was circa 2008. I needed gowns ASAP, and sought the help of my designer friends. I didn't know him, but he was highly recommended by another good friend/designer of mine, Louis Claparols (who is now the President of their design group-YDG/Young Designers Guild). As soon as I saw his works, I fell in love :D

Anyways, I had Bea Alonzo wear his gown. I was quite enamored with his use of appliques.

Click on the photo below to see more of his gowns (from this romantic collection) in detail: courtesy of Preview.

From then on, I became his fan. All the more so, because he was so accommodating, friendly and helpful to me. I'm always excited whenever he has a new collection/fashion show. His latest one with Metrowear garnered oohs and ahhs from all my colleagues. Such a well-loved designer. You better have a few pieces made by him before he gets really packed and busy. Oh, and did I mention that he is the genius behind Preview's Marian Rivera cover? SWEET!

To know more about Eric, below is a feature I did on him under my Manila Bulletin column about a year ago:

Infinite Possibilities
By Jane Kingsu-Cheng

We all know that the brain is separated into two parts: the left and the right hemispheres. They say, one of the halves is more dominant than the other. With one being more creative (right-brained) than methodological (left-brained), and vice versa. But we would like to believe otherwise, as some of the most creative people can be quite business-savvy, too!

Take Ilonggo Eric Delos Santos, who has been creating quite a stir in the fashion realm. He dishes out, “I wanted to be a corporate lawyer or an accountant. I had a knack for numbers, but my heart was into fashion. I took over my mom’s position and managed a tailoring business and a furniture store, which lead me to become a designer. I’ve realized that I’m more of an entrepreneur, and it’s great that I can help my workers earn a living, too!”
Sophisticated elegance (and a bit more edgy for the young at heart) comes to mind when one sees Delos Santos’ works, with a mix of silks, satins, chiffons, pina and hablon as his textiles of choice. Personalities such as Boy Abunda, Angelica Panganiban, Ruffa Gutierrez, Pops Fernandez, Toni Gonzaga, Allana Montellibano, Happy Ongpauco and Eva Abesamis have also helped create a cult following.

This artist isn’t afraid to use color and prints, as can be seen from his latest collection. You’ll undeniably be swept away by his capsule work of billow-y silk chiffon dresses in geo graphic prints. It’s his rendition of the glamorized ‘70s boho chic, which is perfect for those sizzling sexy summer nights ahead.

He recently launched a design that we think will, no doubt, be a bestseller. Made of jersey and available in basic colors (you can request and have it custom-made), his infinity dresses are for the recessionistas. Though we’re having some tough times, it doesn’t mean we should give up on looking fab, right? His infinity dresses are just the solution to our style budget woes. Wear this dress in different ways, at various occasions, and you’ll surely get compliments from your gal pals on how creative and stylishly smart you are.

A few ways to wear the infinity dress:

Show off your sexy shoulders in this halter-style.
A detailed back gives the illusion of a different dress.

Go with the trend in this one-shoulder design.

GOOD NEWS!!!
My mom and I dropped by to pick up her gown yesterday late afternoon at the shop where he consigns (in The Podium), and found out that most of his creations are on sale—at 50% off. I tried on some, but unfortunately, they didn't fit me since I am a bit more well-endowed now—I'm breastfeeding. But if you have a model's body, then I suggest you head out to The Podium to try on these goodies. Lots of flowing dresses are ripe for the taking, too! DROOL!

Onyx Takes The Lead

Just had to share what I wrote in my column last weekend on one of our favorite jewellers:

Not too long ago, while having afternoon tea with my mom at EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, we decided to check out the shops and stumbled upon JMA Jewelry Center. Their detachable drop earrings are what caught our eyes, those being both our first purchases from the shop, and have become one of my favorites to date.

Frequent visits led us to an introduction with the lady behind JMA Jewelry Center—doe-eyed and petite Jesusa “Suzette” M. Ayson, a third generation jeweler who’s roots are from Bacolor, Pampanga. “I started helping out my mom when I was 13 years old. That's over 34 years in the business. I was taught, along the way, how to detect artificial and real stones and how to grade diamonds and colored stones. The eye is still the best tool in assessing jewelries. What was not taught in school, you learn from the masters in the business like the gemologist you deal with and the master goldsmith you work with. Some of the tricks of the trade are acquired by hands-on experience,” she shares.

For her latest collection, onyx took the spotlight—a refreshing choice among the sea of translucent and opaque colored pieces: “Black has always been my favorite color, because of its elegant effect especially when it is set as a background for diamonds and other bright stones. Onyx is a material that is easy to find and most cutters have mastered the technique of cutting this stone.”

Mounted in 18k white, yellow, and rose gold, this collection of baubles is mixed with diamonds, amethyst, corals and other gemstones for a modern yet feminine appeal. Suzette adds, “The value of gold and precious stones have escalated over the years, which prompted designers and manufacturers to think of materials that can limit the use of these precious materials without compromising value for money and style. The onyx collection is giving a twist on a likewise predictable accessory one would normally use everyday or an event.”

Rose gold is a refreshing color choice for this black and white piece.

Amethyst keeps this pair feminine.

You can take out the citrine and quartz drops and wear the studs alone—very versatile!

Paired with corals, this diamond-and-onyx number is a standout.

Turquoise is here to stay. These look great on your favorite jeans and shirt ensemble.

What I'm Lusting For

Late last year, my mom and I dropped by JMA at Shangri-la EDSA hotel. They're one of our fave shops; we love their modern and feminine pieces. I'm not sure if they still have these below, but I just had to share them with you.

I know it's not a nice shot, but this is a pair of goldfish-shaped danglers.
Aren't they adorable? Priced at about P15k, I think. Not bad right?

These are the other earrings that my mom and I tried on. Sigh!

And my goodness—the stingray bangles are priced around P20k up! Affordable, aren't they? :)
And the brooches are to die for :o

DROOL! Will post some more tomorrow :)

Leg Love

I used to buy my stash of colorful and printed hosiery in Hong Kong, every chance I get. But I no longer need to do, thanks to Kate Torralba's collaboration with City Lady. On it's second batch, called Leg Candy, comes a collection of colorful tights. Well, what else do you expect from KT? :)

They now offer leggings (even two-toned ones), aside from their textured stockings. This makes layering fun and stylish—most especially this cool and breezy January ;) Here are some looks you can copy:

* Leg Love by KT for City Lady is available in selected SM Department Stores, Watson’s, and KT’s boutique store at Greenbelt 5.

Kira Sale

Amidst the holiday shopping madness at SM Megamall, Kira Plastinina’s loyal customers were treated to a private affair. Ladies and tweens got first dibs on the Russian fashion house’s holiday collection, at 15% off—just for one afternoon. It was, indeed, a special day as guests enjoy the special discount, along with hand pampering from Posh Nails, gift certificates from Strip, and complimentary makeovers by Am Yapjoco.

Oh, to be young and carefree again. Don't take this the wrong way, I had a great childhood, and a fashionable one, at that. And who's to say we can't wear Kira P's pieces? :D Check out who made it to this fun shopping day:

Sophia Guerrero couldn’t resist the 15% discount.

Dancers from Stella show their moves at the window display.

Catherine Ching’s rocker chick style go well with Kira’s pieces.

Singer Gayla toughen up her sweet “heart” dress with studded ankle booties.

Teen singers Krissy and Ericka Villongco spiced up their all black ensembles with a punch of color.

*Kira Plastinina is located at the second level of SM Megamall Building B.

Imagine No More

Remember my post on the Samsung/FnH contest last year? Well, they've chosen the winners :D

The Samsung I Imagine Shout-out Making Contest was done online where over 10,000 entries from students aged 15 to 25 registered and posted their shout-outs about the three categories Talk, Play, and Love. Winners of the contest get bragging rights as their shout-outs will be printed in cool and hip Folded and Hung hoodies which will be sold in Folded and Hung stores in Mall of Asia, Robinson’s Place Galleria, Unimart, SM San Lazaro, Southmall, Market Market, Shangri-La Plaza, Robinson’s Place Ermita, SM Megamall, Trinoma, Glorietta 2, Eastwood Mall, SM North The Block, and Alabang Town Center. The hoodies will be available starting on the first week of January 2010, proceeds of which will be donated to Samsung Hope which sends kids back to school.

The campaign culminates in an installation event dubbed as “I Imagine” featuring the visuals of renowned fashion photographer Ronnie Salvacion. TALK is represented by Erin Torrejon (DLSU), Jessica Mendoza (ADMU), Marc Catubay (Southeast Asian College), Melissa Gohing (DLSU) and Simon Atkins (DLSU) while Migo Llamas (Colegio de San Juan de Letran), Tricia Gosingtian (ADMU), Jasmine Maierhofer (Adamson University), Riki Flores (UP), and Elmer Espiritu (UE) poses for his lenses for PLAY. A video installation on LOVE with Andi Manzano (Miriam College), Jai Reyes (ADMU), Monika Sta. Maria (DLSU), Nico Salva (ADMU), and Joshua Webb (DLSU) completes the categories. Here are some of the photos that were on exhibit that night:

Melissa Gohing: “I Imagine we can be one with the world.”

Once it’s there, it’s just there. And I quote my mom in this, ‘All is fair in love and war’.”

Erin Torrejon: “I Imagine everyone helping out to restore our forests and the marine life.”

Simon Atkins: “I Imagine everyone valuing education
because it is really the only asset that you can have.”

Migo Llamas: “I Imagine that I’m cheering for a good cause.”

Jasmine Maierhofer: “I Imagine that after several years, Philippine fashion
would be at par with Paris, Milan, London and other international fashion districts.”

Riki Flores: “I Imagine public service for the greater good of the people
and not for the greater good of the ego.”

Andi Manzano: “I imagine love inspiring me to be better.”

Jai Reyes: “I Imagine love is like a three-pointer. You just have to take the shot.”

The winners of the Samsung I Imagine Shout-out Making Contest were awarded and their shout-outs, unveiled. The shout-outs were judged according to Relevance to the Chosen Category (40%), Creativity (40%), and Total number of online votes (20%). On TALK, Isabella Martinez from University of Sto. Tomas (UST) wins with her shout-out, “I imagine and I will make it happen.” On PLAY, Guillermo II Francisco also from University of Sto.
