To The Dark Side

You know when TV series and movies are a hit when fashion houses and makeup brands pay tribute to them. True Blood (TV series) and Twilight (movie series) are both top ranking, with Vampire Diaries (another TV series) following suit.

Goth-inspired looks have truly arrived, with designers such as Calvin Klein and Jil Sander leading the pack of fashionistas with sleek styles in edgy gunmetal shades. Makeup artists have also drawn inspiration from these hit shows, as they complemented the looks with sexy black makeup as well.

Take your cue from M.A.C.’s senior makeup artist Terry Barber, who shared a few of her favorite tools, from the latest Style Black collection, on thestylespy.com: “I love the new Mineralize Black Shadows, with the undertones of jewel metallics, for that Grace Jones look—like wet asphalt. Sexy. Overall, it’s all about black with metallics—emerald green on dirty gold, a little cobalt mixed in.” I also love their Penultimate eyeliner in Rapid Black for having the thinnest liner pen to date. Other black must-tries include cremesheen lipstick in Black Knight and Mattene lipsticks in Night Violet and Midnight Media. Barber’s tips on wearing black? “Only a hardcore vampire would do all black everything. It’s all about balance. A lot of eye always means less skin and a fleshy mouth. A strong lip looks contemporary on a nude eye. It’s all about what you erase on the face.” Oh, and no matter what look you’re sporting, keep those lashes long and luscious with M.A.C.’s latest baby, Zoom Fast Black Lash in Deepest Black (P780).

This makeup collection is perfect for those who have plans this Halloween :) Don't be overwhelmed with these black babies, you can use them for glam nights out as well. Just ask the M.A.C. sales staff which products they'd recommend, and get tips and makeup lessons on the spot at their stores located in Glorietta (near Rustan's), Rustan's Shangri-la Plaza mall, and Power Plant mall.
